FULL INTERVIEW: Derek Hough Gushes Over 'Amazing' Daughter Everly Capri: 'I Definitely Needed a Girl in My Life'
Baby bliss, simple workouts, & why movement now matters more than ever.
In a candid, uncut Q&A with OK!, Derek Hough sits down with Senior Editor JACLYN ROTH to talk about balancing life as a new dad, performer, and fitness enthusiast – and how he’s learned to fit movement into even the busiest days.
The conversation kicks off with Derek explaining his partnership with Rilla Protein Plus and the “no extra time” mindset behind it, revealing how something as simple as waiting for pasta to cook can double as the perfect window for a quick, effective workout.
This is one you don’t want to miss.
DEREK: Rilla Protein Plus was great because it’s pasta. It tastes great, and you get the protein you need. Creating this training program on their website – these training timers – it’s sort of like I often say, there’s net time, no extra time. While your pasta’s cooking, that little timeframe, you can get a workout in. A little 10-minute workout. You don’t need any equipment. You go to the side, use your body weight, stretch, get your heart rate up, feel good. Then the pasta’s done cooking, you’re eating, you feel great.
So for me, it’s really maximizing our time. I’m a new dad, I’m dancing, I’m about to do a tour in the summer, I’ve got a job on Extra. Those little moments, those pockets, are important. I want to make it accessible. People get intimidated by working out – going to the gym, buying special equipment. No. You just need eight to 10 minutes while your pasta cooks. Go in the corner, do some movement. I’ll guide you through it. It’s not intimidating. It gets you going.
Movement directly affects the way you feel, and I want people to feel great. Working with them has been fantastic. They even have a new stars-shaped pasta, which is perfect because Dancing With the Stars. It has it all – the food, the movement – and we’re having a good time.
JACLYN: What can people look forward to with the workouts? So many people feel like they don’t have time.
